Joy Jones’, 2006 article, Marriage is for White People, had mouths flapping for months afterward, mine included. CNN’s Dionne Hill revisited the topic recently in time for the Black in America series.

Marriage is touchy topic for a lot of women, black women in particular because of the current trends. Forty-five percent of black women in America have never been married, compared with 23 percent of white women, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey in 2006.

Ms. Hill remains optimistic as do I. If marriage is meant for me than it will happen. My hopes were renewed yesterday as I attended a black wedding. The bride is of mixed parentage(her mother is white and  father black) and the groom is black, they are both in their thirties. It was a small but intimate ceremony

and thankfully the only  drama was the heavy rain.
